Page Turner Bookstore kicks-off it's Page Turner Writers Reading Series with Locals Night featuring our local mountain writers. We hope to connect writers with readers and to celebrate the creativity of our Mountain Communities.
Our first Locals Night features three immensely talented writers: novelists Kathryn Brettell, author of THE OLIVE PICKER, and Elizabeth A.A Wilson, author of THE HUMBUG MURDERS; and poet, Paula Verdicchio. Come and hear these writers breathe life into their poems and stories just for us! Have the chance to purchase Kathryn and Elizabeth's books and Paula's CD for signing and chat while enjoying coffee, tea and treats!
Kathryn Brettell wrote THE OLIVE PICKER in 2014, while living in India with her husband Peter. They came back to Colorado at the end of 2016, and are now permanent residents. Kathryn also has short stories published in The McGuffin Magazine and The Mountain Connection. THE OLIVE PICKER takes place in In 2008, during the Global Financial crisis, Kathi was assaulted, beaten and left for dead. A step kid, Kathi had grown up with all the confidence of a road-flattened squirrel, but this event changed her completely. THE OLIVE PICKER tells this true story, in a sometimes deceptively funny manner, but it is an ultimately haunting tale of survival that will stay with you long after your read it.
Elizabeth A.A Wilson has an aversion to paperwork, a passion for story-telling and a curious fascination with the afterlife--all of which are the main ingredients in Wilson's unique writing voice. The fact that she is an ordained minister, a professional administrator, the mother of a two young children and the wife of a joker and chocolatier provides the material for every unexpected twist in the yarn she spins. Her novel THE HUMBUG MURDERS takes a fun twist on Charles Dickens's character Ebenezer Scrooge who becomes a murder investigator in Wilson's playful mystery. Wilson is also the author of ASCENSION DENIED and THE FOIBLE SERIES.
Paula Michelle Verdicchio is a humanist, momma and musician who writes poetry and creative non-fiction. She finds inspiration in the underscore of energetically intense relationships and kundalini yoga. Paula has a Master’s Degree in Jazz and is the composer, lyricist and author of CRESCENT HEARTS, a full scale rock opera in progress, and SWIMMING IN STARS, an original album of music she also sings and plays on violin, piano and guitar. When Paula is not teaching, singing or writing, you can find her chasing her children with Shaolin kung fu on a mountainside.
